This device is a NAS, which comes with or without any disks, depending on the model. In any case, you are absolutely free which drive you want to use since it features two 3.5" SATA drive slots. Certain models are equipped with a 1TB Western Digital Green drive in one of the drive slots. The drives can be operated in JBOD, RAID-0 and RAID-1 and can handle drives up to 2 TB. It has a Gbit LAN and USB 2.0 Host connector. It has no serial and is not good to disassemble because the case has glued connections (without screws) which makes it hard to disassemble and reassemble afterwards.
The device seems to be an OEM version of a Mapower (http://www.mapower.com.tw/) device, at least if the default SSH password is to be believed. /proc/cpuinfo mentions 'Oxsemi NAS' as hardware type.
By default, the SSH service (dropbear) is present but is not enabled and can be made available by uploading a modified firmware to the device or by requesting a special link in the browser. The site http://md253.blogspot.com/ contains additional information about this device.
Note: At least with firmware version 2.3.27, ssh can get started automatically setting ssh=Enable in /etc/sysconfig/config/service, although the host key changes every reboot unless the link /etc/sysconfig/config/ssh get turned into a real and static directory.
